To reduce safety and security concerns on station platforms, approaches, park and ride lots, bus drop-off points, parking lots/garages, rail/bus storage yards, and pedestrian trails, K&J Safety and Security Consulting Services, Inc. can assist transit agencies by performing a lighting assessment which includes mitigation recommendations for improvement.
Recently, K&J completed a detailed photometric/illumination assessment for the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) on its LYNX Blue Line Light Rail segment. This assessment included 15 light rail stations, six adjoining parking lots, three pedestrian bridges, a multi-story parking garage, a light rail maintenance facility, and a 1.25-mile-long multi-use trail paralleling the alignment. The K&J team collected photometric data using light meters and deployed a drone to capture night images of all the locations in our assessment. Utilizing our drone capabilities added an effective visual verification supporting the assessment results and recommendations. This lighting assessment provided CATS with a visual reference and numerical illumination data to support future Department of Homeland Security (DHS) grant requests for lighting upgrade projects for the LYNX Blue Line.
K&J also performed a Threat and Vulnerability Assessment for Manatee County Transit, which included a Design Review of security lighting and cameras for the transit fleet facility.
Additionally, K&J verifies lighting standards for all Safety Certification projects that include a lighting element.
