Role in This Project:

K & J has been supporting TriMet by providing safety and security certification support services as well as system safety, safety engineering, safety auditing and emergency management consulting services. Additionally, K & J has been performing independent reviews and providing determinations on all bus and rail incidents through the Third-Step review process.

2012

1:  Professional Services Contract

In support to Tri-Met’s Safety and Security Certification Program for the Portland-Milwaukie Light Rail Project the following services are underway:

  • Final Approval of the Threat and Vulnerability Assessment (TVA)

 

The Portland – Milwaukie Light Rail Project consists of the following:

  • 1.4B Project
  • 7.3 miles of new double track
  • 10 – new stations
  • 30% of the alignment on elevated structures
  • An exclusive light rail, bus, and street car alignment on the new Willamette River Bridge with bike and pedestrian walkways
  • 2 park and ride locations
  • 18 new Light Rail Vehicles (LRVs)
  • Expansion of the Ruby Junction Operating and Maintenance Facility to accommodate the new LRVs
  • Relocation of the Operation Command Center (OCC) to the TriMet’s Center Street facility

 

2011

1:  Professional Services Contract

In support to Tri-Met’s Safety and Security Certification Program for the Portland-Milwaukie Light Rail Project the following services are underway:

  • Draft Threat and Vulnerability Assessment (TVA)
  • Final approval of the project Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHAs)

 

2010

1:  Safety and security On-Call Professional Services.

  • Performed a complete safety assessment of the transit agency. Developed corrective action recommendations and presented the recommendations to the executive staff as well as a special board created to implement the corrective actions
  • Performed an analysis of TriMet bus operations, specifically how bus runs are cut, driver training, rules/procedures and left turn safety
  • Perform a review of the TriMet Transit Change Review Committee (TCRC), Urgent Review Process as it relates to applying the principals of the National Safety Council’s (NSC) Guide to Determining Accident Preventability

 

2006 – Present

1:  K&J has been under contract to provide Third Party (“Third Step”) bus and rail accidents appeals reviews. K&J is required to review all data (both electronic and written reports) pertaining to the accident and uphold or overturn the preventability decisions of the TriMet Accident Appeals Board.
