Safety and Security Certification of the West Lake Corridor (WLC) Commuter Rail Extension

2020

  • Review, revise, and update the project’s Safety and Security Management Plan (SSMP) and Safety and Security Certification Plan (SSCP)
  • Review and revise the project’s PHA and TVA
  • Organized and began regular Safety and Security Certification Review Committee (SSRC) meetings
  • Provided training for members of the SSRC on various duties of the committee and on the purpose and use of the PHA and TVA

 

2019

K&J Safety and Security Consulting Services, Inc. is providing technical and engineering support to the Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District (NICTD) for their Safety and Security efforts on the FTA funded, FRA regulated West Lake Corridor Commuter Railroad Extension. The WLC is an approximate eight-mile southern extension (7.77 miles of track construction) of the existing NICTD South Shore Line between Dyer and Hammond, Indiana. The Project includes new track operating at-grade on a separate right-of-way (ROW) as well as elevated guideway in various locations of the extension. In addition to new guideways, the project involves the design and construction of multiple passenger stations and one (1) maintenance facility.

  • Reviewed, revised, and updated various safety and security design specifications
  • Reviewed, revised, and updated the project’s Safety and Security Certification Plan (SSCP)
  • Reviewed, revised, and updated the project’s Safety and Security Management Plan (SSMP)
  • Guided the development of the project’s Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA) and Threat and Vulnerability Assessment (TVA)
  • Acting in the capacity of Safety and Security Specialist under the direction of the General Manager and Director of Safety and Rules.
