On Sunday, January 21, 2018, at 0800 K & J Safety and Security Consulting Services Inc. administered a Full Scale Exercise (FSX) for Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) Blue Line Extension (BLE). The purpose of this exercise was to ensure CATS was prepared for an emergency if it were to take place in the portal leading up to the University of North Carolina Charlotte (UNCC) campus. The scenario for the FSX was a two (2) train concise that caught fire due to hot brakes in the middle of the portal.
There were more than 200 participants for the FSX from various departments which included: Charlotte Fire Department (CFD), Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD), MEDIC, Department of Homeland Security (DHS), UNCC Police Department, CATS Rail Operations, CATS Bus Operations, G4S Company Police, CATS Safety & Security and local media.
The FSX tested the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s), Plans, and Policies that CATS has in place. It also provided the opportunity for CATS to once again work with the local emergency responders.
K & J Consulting would like to extend a big thank you to the 200+ participants for staying fully engaged in the exercise, even though it was cold, and putting forth their best efforts to make this activity a successful one! K & J Consulting would also like to thank our hard-working team for overseeing this exercise and making sure everything went smoothly – Tim Pernie, Robert Boone, Debra Zielonka, Steve Marshall, and Justin Tucci.
